Conversations with Small People

Whazzup?

Whazzup?

Everybody, Darwisyah says hi. Haha.

Anyway, on Tuesday, I asked my nephew if I could borrow his Halo 3 game. I figured that since he can’t play games on weekdays, and since he only plays the same level over and over again (‘cos then he’ll always win), he won’t be missing it much. Besides, he’s only 6. Halo is definitely not a game for a 6 year old.

So anyway, when he came over yesterday, this is what happened:

Awad: Mommy Fizah, I forgot to bring my Halo 3 (he pronounces it as “hellos”, thinking the “3″ is an “s”. Bless him).

Me: Aww, it’s ok Awad. Next time.

Awad: I also never bring because I don’t know if you can handle the game or not.

[Pause]

Me: OF COURSE I CAN HANDLE THE GAME!

Thanks Awad, for that low blow to my ego. Kids can think so highly of themselves. Tsk.

Speaking of games, Awad watched me play Left 4 Dead once. After I shooed him out of my room, he went off to play with Hakeem. I found them in Wani’s room hiding out in a corner with their pretend guns, pretending to hold down fort from pretend zombies.

By that time, they’ve already secured the door and were currently securing the window. Since Hakeem is only 3 years old, he couldn’t see over the window, and he obviously can’t climb onto something to look out in case he falls out or something. So I told him to target onto a Singapore Flag on the opposite building which he could see from where he was standing.

He then gave me a mortified look. Like he couldn’t believe what I was suggesting. Like it was the worst thing you could ever do.

Me: “Why Hakeem? Why can’t you shoot the flag?”

He gave me a very pained expression.

Hakeem: “Because… my school also have the flag!”

He looked sooo hurt. With Hakeem it was less about nationalism and more about loyalty to his kindergarten, but I almost felt guilty for my lack of patriotism to the country.

Kids. You gotta love them.

Naughty little rascals.
